Somerset County is strategically positioned on the Eastern Seaboard. The principal arteries of the Delmarva Peninsula, U.S. Routes 13 and 50, are immediately at hand. Quick connections to the interstate system offer overnight access to almost one third of the nation's population--a consumer market representing one third of the total United States effective buying income.
Access to international markets is only hours away whether through the nearby Ports of Baltimore or Wilmington to the north or the Hampton Roads Port Complex to the south. Somerset County embraces the Conrail main line which runs north to the Wilmington/Philadelphia area and south with connection to the Eastern Shore Railroad to Norfolk and the Tidewater Virginia area.
Recent massive capital investments on the line have upgraded considerably the capability of this line and make it once again a most viable transportation alternative. Additionally, less than 15 miles (25 km) from Somerset County are daily scheduled air cargo and passenger flights to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and New York City. The airport also provides hangar space for private and corporate aircraft.
